Web II
April 1- Week 4

PUBLISH
Publish .swf files. Simply do this:
File > Export Movie > .swf
You can also export .avi or .mov files as well, but for our purposes select .swf.

Add your animations to HTML documents using Dreamweaver (or similar program). Once embedded, upload. Be sure to have a clear website with all of your different Flash exercises for me and others to look at.

Extra: Newer versions of Flash have the possibility to publish for mobile phones and other handheld devices. Under Publish > Publish Settings > Click on the Flash Tab. Here you can select what version of Flash you wish to target. My default is Flash 8 because that is the version of Flash I am using. But you can also select Flash Lite which is designed to make content for handheld devices (specifically: Flash Lite is a profile for use in handsets that utilizes Flash 5 objects and Flash 4 ActionScript). If you select this new possibilities show up and you can test out your animations for different devices.

BUTTONS

BUTTON 1
Draw a circle on the main stage
Select it and then click- Modify > Convert to Symbol > Button
Name it “Simple Button”
This opens a new Stage Environment
Create States for Up Over Down
Hit specifies the Active Area. This is especially useful if your button is only text. You can draw a box in Hit and this makes the entire area Active.
After creating your different states, return to the main screen.
Test your move (Strg Return) and try out your newly created Rollover.
Return to your Movie.

BUTTON 2
Select Insert > New Symbol > Button
Name it “Movie Clip Button”
This opens up a new Stage Environment
Create a simple circle in your Up state
Drag an animated Movie Clip into your Over State
Create a simple circle in your Down state
Return to your Main Stage
Drag this new button from the Library

ADD SOUND
Go to www.findsounds.com or use a sound from your own collection. For details on Sound please refer to the Web Link from your Syllabus.
Save it to your desktop (or USB stick)
Select File > Import to Library
Select your sound.
Return to your “Movie Clip Button” Stage.
Highlight the Over State (click on the key frame)
Drag your sound from the library. Now it will play as soon as you Rollover this button.

EXTRA
To stop the sound once it has begun, create your first bit of Actionscript.
Go to your Main Stage and select your first button (Simple Button).
Open your Actions Panel
Depending upon your version of Flash you can insert the code a number of ways. Simplest is to type it. In Flash MX you need to be in Expert Mode to do this (select this mode in the upper right corner).
Type this code:
on(press){
stopAllSounds();
}

The syntax and function of this code will be discussed next week as we move into Actionscript.
