Media Designer Challenges

Understand the development of interaction and the choices that go into that development. We shape our environments and are shaped by our environments.

Comprehend trends and to think beyond to the future.

Determine specific technical and visual elements that can illustrate your ideas.

Technically comprehend and use those elements, making them your own.

Don't get caught up in tricks over content.

See outside of “the box” and comprehend its greater structure, be that technical or conceptual. To recognize the constraints “the box” places upon our design choices.

Don't get stuck conceptually by things you don't know technically- there is always a way to get across your ideas, even if simplified, even if you get help from others.

Develop you own way of working and to understand that there is a structure there. Pinpointing this structure will help you become a stronger designer. Define your process, no matter if it still seems a bit chaotic. What are your steps as a web designer? How do you plan your ideas, determine your technical needs and assets, bring those into the structure of your project, work through the technical concerns, and so on.

Determine your strengths as a web designer- focus on what you are best at, balancing that with market need and then push it beyond the limit.

Programming suggestions:Define which tools you need to get the job done. Make a list.

Maintain those tools and save them to be reused in your own digital toolbox, you don't have to reinvent the wheel each time you start a new project.

Work out your problems first on paper- write out what you need to achieve.

Determine where your code needs to go inside of flash. What is the structure of your project?

Try out complex problems on their own, outside of your main flash movie or project. It is often good to work in blocks, to problem solve in sections rather than take on many problems at once (just like life, right?).

If you get stuck, take a break and then come back and review your code or project. Don't give up.

You're a web designer- the web is a massive resource so use it to help you research solutions and also new design ideas.
